The rivers of India play an important role in the lives of the Indian people. They provide water for domestic, industrial and agricultural uses and also have mythological importance. They have large contribution towards economic development. In ancient India, most of the industrial towns were built near the river banks. This evidence highlights the role of rivers in civilization progress in all ages.

The growing domestic, industrial and agricultural demand is reducing the quality of water in rivers. A large quantity of untreated sewage effluent is disposed in to the rivers, affecting the quality of river water. The increasing population, urbanization, industrialization, use of plastics, excess use of fertilizers, and disposal of dead bodies in rivers is affecting the quality of river water and has increased the pollution level of various rivers. Ignorance and lack of awareness are the major causes of pollution.

River Water User Association (India) [RWUA(I)] , has taken up the task of create awareness among masses to tackle the growing problem of water demand management and quality improvement through its online and active field initiatives.

I assume that every Indian would come forward and join his hands with RWUA (I) to tackle world’s most critical menace of water shortage, Conservation and quality management and support the government’s initiative to solve the fast growing problems of food security and sanitation caused by water shortages and mismanagement to secure and stabilize the Indian economic growth.
