Ecosystem services are the set of ecosystem functions that are useful to humans. Many of these are critical to our survival (climate regulation, air puriļ¬cation, crop pollination) while others enhance it (aesthetics). Human domination of the biosphere has led to rapid alterations in composition; structure and function of the ecosystems. Today, many ecosystem processes essential for food production has encountered serious degradation. River depletion and degradation, Groundwater overexploitation, Land-use changes, Pollution from overuse of nutrients and agrochemicals, are worsening the problems and causing severe health problems to downstream populations.
